Boyce & Melinda Peterson’s Investment Strategies For the Post-Money World

August 22, 2009 @ 8:00 pm

I’ve been trying to talk local playwright Gip Hoppe into doing a musical together for years (albeit mostly on the golf course), and he’s finally cooked up a whopper: an investment seminar set ten years in the future, after the complete collapse of the economy and the resignation of President Palin. We’re only doing six shows over the last couple of weekends in August, but this thing is going to be hilarious -for one thing, Gip is acting in it, along with Julie Perkins (as husband and wife financial advisers Boyce & Melinda Peterson), and it has been years since he’s acted, and if you’ve ever seen him, you know he’s a hoot. (If you haven’t, Gip was co-founder of the Wellfleet Harbor Actor’s Theater and has long been one of the cape’s most active and best known playwrights, having written a couple of shows -“Jackie” and “Mercy On the Doorstep” -that transferred successfully to Broadway.) I wasn’t familiar with Julie’s work, but saw them rehearse, and she’s going to be amazing, too. Plus, I just love the idea of doing an investment seminar as a theater piece! The songs include satires of country music, Metallica, Celine Dion, and Bruce Springsteen, and were recorded with Rikki Bates, Phil Clements, and Berke McKelvey from the Philharmonic and Jon Graboff from Ryan Adams’ band, and they were a blast to do… all in all, can’t recommend this one highly enough-
