Ruth Blood R.I.P. / “Sure Gonna Miss You”

Ruth Blood
One of my favorite persons in the world was Sonic Trout head honcho Chris Blood’s mom, Ruth Blood, who died a few weeks ago at the age of 89. Ruth was an enthusiast, interested in everything, and always a straight shooter and a refreshingly no bullshit type. She loved music and commotion, to the point of having a bunch of my crazy bands rehearse and record in her basement for decades, and putting up with -and even enjoying! -all Chris’s other nutty musician buddies. We all loved her.

She hung in there through a lot of adversity, losing most of her sight and hearing and even an occasional marble the last couple of years, but she was a real good one.

I wrote this song, “Sure Gonna Miss You”, which I hope to record a more responsible version of someday (this is an early live run-through of it by the Three-O live at the Record Collector in Bordentown, NJ on Sept. 27th, recorded by The Valet Himself), the day she died, and it’s very true that we’ll all miss her a lot.

Thinking of her this week especially, as there will be a memorial service for her at the Orleans Yacht Club at 39 Cove Rd. in Orleans this Sunday, Oct. 20, from 3 pm to 6; if you knew Ruth, come on down. Needless to say, there will be musicians and commotion.
