“The Ivan Variations” – The Chandler Travis Philharmonic
This Groundhog Day, Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, the Chandler Travis Philharmonic, in association with Iddy Biddy Records, is proud to release “The Ivan Variations”, a full-length album that features 12 wildly different versions of the same song, in some cases with completely different melodies and lyrics, as well as extremely varied instrumental versions, including one that’s played upside down and one played backwards.
We’ve been staging our annual Ivan shows with an expanded line-up (including two drummers, extra horns, and tuba) on Groundhog Day the last four years running in various Boston venues, and each successive “Ivan” show has received an exponentially warmer response , which is lucky because we all love doing it! Though we’ll miss playing the show live this year (obviously canceled due to the stupid pandy), we’re glad to continue the tradition in style with this collection, mostly comprised of quite fab sounding live recordings from our show at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge in 2019, plus a few studio forays.
